Fatal Traffic Crash Rocks Homewood: One Dead in Busy Commercial District Near I-80

HOMEWOOD, IL – One person is dead after a fatal traffic crash in a heavily trafficked commercial district in the 17800 block of Halsted Street Tuesday.

Homewood Police and Fire Department swiftly responded to the scene. Accordingly to first responders, authorities arrived just before noon to discovered a grey Chevy sedan, a Ford SUV, and a semi-truck involved in the crash. 

Tragically, the driver of the Ford SUV was found deceased, while the driver of the Chevy sedan sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the semi was uninjured in the crash.

The identities of the individuals involved have been withheld pending notification of their families. The Homewood Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit, with assistance from the Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team (SMART), is currently investigating the circumstances of the crash.

The Homewood Police Department is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the traffic crash to come forward and contact them at 708/206-3420. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
