Good Samaritan Struck, Killed While Helping Goose in Illinois

KANE COUNTY, Ill. – Tragedy struck in unincorporated Elgin Township early Tuesday morning as a man was struck and killed by a van while trying to help a goose in traffic. 

Rate Arqan, 59, of West Chicago, had pulled over on the side of St. Charles Street to assist in removing a goose from the southbound lanes when the accident occurred. Authorities were dispatched to the 1200 block of St. Charles Street at around 6 a.m. in response to the report of a pedestrian struck. 

According to police, Juan Padilla-Regalado, 29, of Elgin, was driving a 2012 Chevy Express van that struck Arqan at some point while he was helping the goose. Arqan was pronounced dead at the scene.

 No charge have been filed in the case.
