Chicago, IL – Jewel-Osco revealed thousands of its employees may have had their personal information compromised in a data breach.
The breach was disclosed in a letter sent by Albertsons, the parent company of Jewel-Osco, to its employees last week.
According to the letter, hackers were able to infiltrate Albertsons’ internal computer systems in December of last year and steal employee data, including names, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers. The exact number of impacted employees was not clear as of Monday night.
Officials with the company say the breach has been contained, and they are taking steps to provide affected individuals with free identity protection services.
However, the incident has raised concerns among Jewel-Osco employees about the security of their personal information. In Summer 2014, Jewel-Osco was hit in a data breach that exposed customers’ payment information.
