Parts of Illinois Faces Drought Conditions: Tips for Water Conservation and Lawn Maintenance

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Central Illinois is grappling with a drought-like start to the year, resulting in dwindling soil moisture and parched lawns. 

Despite the expectation of wetter conditions, experts predict more extreme weather patterns in the future, underscoring the need for effective water management. 

To combat water scarcity, Illinois Extension suggests utilizing rain barrels and cisterns to collect stormwater, while emphasizing the importance of water conservation. 

Additionally, xeriscaping with drought-resistant plants and following recommended lawn practices, such as proper mowing heights and limited watering, can help maintain a healthy landscape during dry periods.
