Fatal Crash on IL Route 113 Claims Life of One Driver

GRUNDY COUNTY, IL – A traffic stop in the area of RT. 47 & RT. 113 led to a fatal crash on IL Route 113 in Grundy County earlier today. 

According to the Grundy County Sheriffs office, an officer attempted to stop a Dodge Durango around 12:35 p.m. but the vehicle fled east on 113 and collided with a ComEd truck near Higgins Road.

Coal City Fire Protection District responded to the crash however the driver of the Durango was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Com Ed truck was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Illinois State Police is currently handling the investigation into the accident. Route 113 between Campbell and Higgins Road will remain closed for several hours as emergency responders work to clear the scene.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and take alternate routes until the road is reopened.

The identities of those involved in the accident have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
