COAL CITY, Ill. – A quiet morning on Hawthorne Drive turned into a scene of chaos as the Coal City Fire Department raced to combat not one, but two accidental fires that ignited within the same residence.

The first outbreak, a stove fire contained shortly before 5 a.m., was followed by a second blaze in the attic area. Miraculously, quick response and expert firefighting prevented the flames from spreading further, sparing the home from greater devastation.

Authorities report the combined blazes caused around $15,000 in damages.  Both fires are believed to have been accidental in nature.
