Wrong-Way Crash Involving Semis Claims Two Lives, Multiple Injuries

Coal City, IL – A tragic wrong-way crash on Interstate 55 Southbound near the Coal City Exit resulted in the loss of two lives and left several individuals injured. 

According to investigators, the collision, involving two semi-trucks and two other vehicles, occurred late Tuesday evening just before 10 p.m. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, while four others were hospitalized, with one in critical condition. The southbound lanes of I-55 were temporarily closed for investigation. 

The identities of the victims have yet to be released.

Wilmington Fire Protection District, Braidwood Fire, and Lifestar Helicopters responded to the scene.  

Authorities are working to determine the cause of the crash. This devastating incident highlights the urgent need for vigilance and responsible driving to prevent such accidents.
