Dryer fire prompts evacuation at Arcadia Care of Morris nursing home

MORRIS, Ill. – A fire broke out at Arcadia Care of Morris nursing home on Monday evening, causing the evacuation of residents and staff. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. at the nursing home located at 1095 Twilight Drive.

The Morris Fire Protection and Ambulance District, along with several other local departments, responded to the scene. Fire officials reported that a dryer inside the laundry room caught on fire, which was quickly extinguished. Smoke from the fire was reported in the laundry room and extended to the hallway where maintenance is located.

All patients at the nursing home were evacuated due to the fire, but were allowed back in about 45 minutes later. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The incident remains under investigation.

The Morris Fire Department received the emergency call and immediately dispatched crews to the scene. The prompt response from the local fire department helped prevent the fire from causing further damage to the nursing home.
