MORRIS, IL – A police chase Saturday in Morris, Illinois ended with the arrest of a California fugitive at a truck stop in LaSalle.
According to Morris Police, officers attempted to stop a vehicle near North Division Street and Mall Drive for an equipment violation. The driver allegedly refused to stop and led police on a slow-speed chase around a gas station lot and onto Route 47. The chase continued on and off the interstate until Morris terminated the pursuit in Seneca.
Authorities alerted neighboring agencies and the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Department located the vehicle at the Flying J Truck Stop in LaSalle, where the driver had run out of gas.
The suspect, who initially refused to give his name or cooperate with fingerprints, was transported to the Grundy County Jail as “John Doe.”
Monday morning, the suspect was identified as 61-year-old Randy DelaCruz, who has a suspended license in California and a warrant out of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas for probation violation, with an original charge of homicide.
DelaCruz is being held in Illinois pending extradition to Kansas. He faces charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding, as well as multiple equipment and traffic violations in Morris.
The Morris Police Department thanked area agencies for their assistance in the pursuit and apprehension of the suspect.
