Milford, IL – A devastating house fire erupted this Labor Day weekend in Milford, Iroquois County, leaving a family displaced and mourning the loss of their beloved pets. While the family emerged unscathed, their furry companions were not as fortunate.

The blaze was reported Saturday around 12:30 p.m. when a vigilant neighbor sprang into action, calling 911 after seeing flames engulfing the residence. Milford Fire swiftly responded to the distress call, converging on Irving Street and North Grove Avenue. The inferno ravaged the two-story home, reducing it to ashes and rendering it a total loss. Investigators suspect the fire originated on the first floor, its cause yet to be determined.

The family, though shaken and left homeless, is immensely grateful for their safety. There pets were killed in the blaze.

An investigation into the fire remains ongoing.
