SCHERERVILLE, IN – Shoppers at the Walmart located on U.S. Highway 41 were left shaken on Saturday evening as police responded to a possible bomb threat in the parking lot.
According to Schererville Police, at around 6 PM, officers were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of suspicious cans wrapped in duct tape with exposed wires. As a result, the parking lot was evacuated, and a bomb detection dog from Porter County was called to assist in the search for potential explosives.
Crews from Porter County Bomb Squad arrived on the scene and collected the cans for transport for further investigation.
Customers inside the store were asked to stay put as authorities worked outside to ensure the safety of the area. The situation caused a heavy police presence in the vicinity of Stracks and Walmart.
In a statement, the Schererville Police Department expressed their gratitude to the members of the public who were patient and understanding during the incident. Walmart has since reopened for business, as it was determined to be an isolated incident. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working diligently to determine the source and motive behind the possible bomb threat.
