Chicago Area Train Derails in Joliet after Crash, Blocking Roadway, Delaying Metra

JOLIET, IL – A freight train collided with a car at the railroad crossing on East Washington Street, leading to a complete blockage between lowa Avenue and Logan Avenue early Tuesday. 

Authorities have reported no injuries resulting from the crash, providing some relief amidst the chaos.  Reports say it happened at 4:20 AM, when train 400 on the Rock Island line was scheduled to depart, but the collision caused significant delays. Subsequent trains have also been affected, leaving commuters and travelers frustrated as they wait for updates on when the area will be cleared.

Police have urged motorists to avoid the area.  No definitive timeframe for when the roadway will be fully operational again.
