Joliet Man Arrested for First Degree Murder of Father

JOLIET, Ill. – Jakeem Williams, a 32-year-old Joliet resident, was arrested and processed for First Degree Murder after shooting his father on Monday. Joliet police responded to a shooting report at a residence on Fairlane Drive and found a 50-year-old male who had been shot in an open garage. 

The victim was transported to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center but was pronounced dead later.

According to Joliet Police and a preliminary investigation, Williams retrieved a handgun from his bedroom during an argument and shot his father. The police soon after arrived on the scene and established a perimeter around the residence, and three other family members were able to safely exit the home. Williams fled the area following the shooting, but officers and detectives identified the vehicle that he may be driving, and this information was disseminated to law enforcement agencies. Will County Sheriff Deputies took Williams into custody at Route 53 and Hoff Road near Elwood.

Joliet Police Department personnel took custody of Williams and transported him to the Joliet Police Department for processing. Williams was later transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. 

The Will County Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and cause of death.

The motive behind the argument that led to the shooting remains unclear. Williams is scheduled to appear in court soon to face charges of First Degree Murder.
