NEW LENOX, Ill. – Icy conditions due to a temperature drop to freezing resulted in multiple car accidents involving at least 10 vehicles and the closure of the westbound lanes of Interstate-80 near New Lenox on Monday morning.

The National Weather Service warned of the potential for slick spots on bridges and overpasses due to snow showers along and north of I-80.

The closure between US-30 and Gougar Road caused traffic to back up to the Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355), and two crashes occurred along southbound La Grange Road south of I-80. Commuters were advised to exercise caution and seek alternate routes to avoid delays.
