Man dead after reportedly shooting self at Kankakee Baseball Field

KANKAKEE – A man is dead of a reported self inflicted gun shot that occurred while he was lying under a tarp at a Kankakee Baseball field.

According to Kankakee City Police, it happened at 9:41 p.m. Tuesday night at Alpiner Park in 600 block of West Merchant Street.  A witness to the scene told Police he saw a man park in a lot and head towards the ball field.  According to the witnesses, the man proceeded to lay down on the field and cover himself with a tarp before shooting himself.

The unidentified man was taken to Ascension Saint Mary’s Hospital where he later was pronounced dead.  No further details have been released involving the incident.
