Omaha, NE – A nationwide health alert has been issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) for Greater Omaha ground beef products suspected of being contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. This bacterium is known for causing severe intestinal infections. The affected ground beef, produced and packaged on March 28, 2024, bears a “Use/Freeze by” date of April 22, 2024, and is marked with “EST.960A” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The FSIS has not requested a recall because the products are no longer for sale but remains concerned that consumers may still have the beef in their freezers. Anyone possessing these products is advised to discard them or return them to the purchase location. Symptoms of E. coli infection, which can include dehydration, bloody diarrhea, and severe abdominal cramps, typically appear three to four days after eating contaminated food.
No illnesses have been reported yet; however, consumers feeling ill after consuming the affected products should seek medical attention promptly. For more information or to report a problem, contact FSIS or visit the FSIS website to view product labels and further details.
