Northern Illinois, Indiana Colleges Announce Closures and E-Learning Due to Severe Cold Weather

CHICAGO, IL – In response to the extreme cold weather affecting Northern Illinois and Indiana, numerous colleges and universities have announced closures and transitions to remote learning. With wind chills expected to reach as low as 15 to 30 degrees below zero, these measures are being taken to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Wind Chill Warning Conditions:

  • Effective Area: Northern Illinois and Indiana.
  • Duration: Until 9 AM CST Wednesday.
  • Forecast: Wind chills as low as 15 to 30 degrees below zero.
  • Risks: Extreme cold wind chills can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
