PARK FOREST, Ill. – A felon has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly firing multiple shots at a tow truck driver who was attempting to repossess a vehicle.

According to Park Forest Police, it happened last Wednesday when officers responded to the 300 block of Miami Street after the tow truck driver flagged them down. Lorenzo Crawford, a 51-year-old resident of Park Forest, was identified as the offender.

According to reports, Crawford believed at the time someone was stealing his relative’s vehicle and fired a “warning shot” before firing three more at the rear of the truck.  One of those bullets went through the drivers headrest but did not injure the driver.

Officers later obtained a search warrant for Crawford’s residence and found several firearms, including the handgun believed to have been used in the incident.

Crawford, a convicted felon, cannot legally own any firearms.  He’s previously been convicted on multiple charges including armed robbery, vehicular invasion, burglary, aggravated battery to a police officer, and drug-related offenses.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved that Crawford be charged with attempted murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Crawford is currently being held at the Cook County Jail with no bond.
