New Lenox, IL – The KidsWork Children’s Museum, a cherished educational and recreational landmark in Frankfort is gearing up for an exciting relocation to New Lenox, scheduled to open in the summer of 2024. This significant move not only marks a new chapter for the museum but also promises to extend its community services, with an expanded age range of up to 12 years and a significant increase in its operational space.

Construction on the new facility began in November of last year, signaling the start of a transformative project for the museum. The 12,000 square-foot building in New Lenox represents a substantial upgrade from the museum’s current location, doubling its size and enabling a more diverse range of exhibits and activities. The inception of KidsWork Children’s Museum dates back to 2007, when founder Gina Carrera and a collective of local women entrepreneurs, educators, and community activists sought to create a space dedicated to children’s learning and exploration in Frankfort.

Initially named the Frankfort Children’s Museum, the establishment underwent a rebranding to KidsWork Children’s Museum to better reflect its broadening reach beyond Frankfort, serving the entire county and surrounding areas. The museum’s journey from a modest setup in a barn in downtown Frankfurt to its upcoming state-of-the-art facility in New Lenox is a testament to the community’s commitment to nurturing young minds.

The new venue is not just about physical expansion; it’s a leap towards inclusivity and innovation. Featuring new exhibits, including interactive water elements and an outdoor area, the museum aims to cater to children with varying abilities and backgrounds. This expansion aligns with the museum’s vision to evolve into a regional attraction, offering a rich cultural experience to families across the county.

As the museum prepares for its summer 2024 opening, excitement builds in New Lenox and the surrounding communities. The KidsWork Children’s Museum is set to become a cornerstone in the region, providing educational and playful experiences for a broader demographic, and reinforcing the importance of children’s museums as vital community resources.
