According to Kankakee County Coroner’s reports, the crash took place around 3:45 AM, with Smith’s vehicle crossing the center line and rolling over in the eastbound ditch. Kankakee Sheriff’s Deputies and emergency personnel responded to the scene, where it was determined that Smith was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
