Zanesville, Ohio – A narrow window for isolated severe storms could bring brief travel disruptions across east-central Ohio this evening, with the greatest risk between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a low-end severe weather risk is in place for Muskingum and Coshocton counties. While storm coverage will remain limited, any cell that develops could produce damaging wind gusts and pockets of large hail.
Communities including Zanesville, Coshocton, Cambridge, and New Philadelphia are most likely to see activity. Storms may develop during the late afternoon and track east, potentially impacting key routes such as Interstate 70 and nearby state highways during the evening commute. Wind gusts could approach 60 mph in stronger cells, with hail capable of creating brief road hazards and minor property damage.
The overall risk remains marginal, meaning many areas will stay dry. However, conditions can change quickly if a storm forms overhead. Residents are encouraged to monitor alerts, secure loose outdoor items, and be ready to move indoors if thunder is heard.
Storm chances diminish after 9 p.m., with quieter conditions expected overnight. Additional updates may be issued late this afternoon if storms begin to develop.
