Portland, Oregon – Temperatures dropping to near 34 degrees overnight are expected to trigger widespread frost across parts of western Oregon, putting early-season crops and backyard gardens at risk before sunrise Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Portland, a Frost Advisory remains in effect through Saturday morning for the Upper Hood River Valley and southern Willamette Valley, where lows between 34 and 36 degrees will allow frost to form, especially in areas above 1,500 feet.
Communities including Eugene, Corvallis, and Albany could wake up to patchy frost on exposed surfaces, while higher elevations near Parkdale and Odell face the greatest risk. Agricultural zones and vineyards in these regions may see localized impacts, particularly where skies remain clear and winds stay light overnight.
Drivers are unlikely to face major roadway hazards, but early risers could encounter slick spots on bridges and rural roads. Gardeners and growers should act quickly by covering sensitive plants or bringing them indoors to prevent damage.
The cold snap is expected to ease shortly after sunrise Saturday as temperatures climb, but additional advisories could be issued if similar conditions develop again this weekend.
