Tulsa, OK – Thunderstorm chances will ramp up across eastern Oklahoma by Thursday evening, with a risk for severe weather and flooding that could impact travel through Friday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, storm chances increase to 50% to 70% Thursday across cities including Tulsa, Muskogee, McAlester, and Bartlesville, with activity continuing into Friday. A 15% severe weather risk is in place along and east of Interstate 44, including the Tulsa metro and areas into northwest Arkansas.
Heavy rainfall is a growing concern, with a 5% to 15% chance of excessive rain that could lead to localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas and along smaller creeks. Storms may begin as early as Thursday afternoon and persist in waves through Friday evening, increasing the risk for water-covered roads along U.S. 75, I-44, and Highway 412.
While early-week storms Tuesday and Wednesday remain limited and below severe levels, conditions become more unstable late in the week. Residents are urged to monitor alerts, ensure multiple ways to receive warnings, and avoid driving through flooded roadways.
The storm threat is expected to continue into Friday night, with additional updates likely as timing and severity become clearer.
