Philadelphia, PA – Temperatures will plunge below freezing late tonight, putting immediate pressure on crops, outdoor plumbing, and early Tuesday travel across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Freeze Warning is in effect overnight into early Tuesday morning, with inland temperatures dropping to 24°F near Allentown, 27°F in Trenton, and around 28–32°F in Philadelphia and Wilmington. Coastal areas like Atlantic City and Cape May will stay slightly warmer, generally between 35°F and 41°F.
The coldest air arrives after 10 PM Monday, with subfreezing conditions expanding across the I-95 corridor through daybreak Tuesday. Areas farther inland—including Reading, Morristown, and Sussex County—face the highest risk for prolonged freezing temperatures.
Frost and thin ice may develop on bridges and untreated roads early Tuesday, especially along I-76, I-95, and I-295. Gardeners and farmers should cover or bring in sensitive plants immediately, as freezing temperatures can kill crops and damage vegetation within hours.
Residents should protect exposed pipes, bring pets indoors, and prepare for a cold start Tuesday morning. Conditions will improve after sunrise as temperatures rise above freezing, but additional advisories remain possible if colder air lingers longer than expected.
