Arlington Heights, IL – Residents in Arlington Heights and across Cook County have an opportunity to support local blood supplies during a community blood drive scheduled for Wednesday, May 6.

According to the Village of Arlington Heights, the event will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Buechner Room, located at 33 S. Arlington Heights Road. The village is partnering with Vitalant, a nonprofit blood donation organization, to host the drive aimed at boosting donations ahead of the summer season, when shortages can become more common.

All presenting donors will receive a coupon for a Papa John’s Papadia flatbread sandwich as a thank-you. Donors will also be entered into a raffle for a gift card to one of two local Arlington Heights restaurants, adding an extra incentive for participation.

Officials say appointments are preferred to help manage flow, though walk-ins will be accepted. Residents can register by calling Vitalant at 877-258-4825 or visiting vitalant.org and using the code ORDOAH30.

Before donating, participants are encouraged to eat a healthy meal, drink plenty of fluids, and bring a valid photo ID. These steps help ensure a smooth donation process and reduce the risk of complications.

The event is part of ongoing efforts to maintain a stable blood supply for hospitals serving Arlington Heights, greater Cook County, and the Chicago metro area. Blood donations are critical for surgeries, trauma care, and chronic illness treatments.

Community leaders say even a single donation can help save multiple lives, making local drives like this one especially important.
