Grand Rapids, MI – Snow and strong winds are expected to create hazardous travel conditions along the US 131 corridor through Thursday morning. With gusts reaching up to 40 mph, visibility may drop to near zero in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from Wednesday afternoon until 10 a.m. Thursday for areas west of Holland to Reed City. Snowfall accumulation is estimated between 2 to 6 inches, with the heaviest snow expected closer to Lake Michigan. Blowing and drifting snow will be the primary concern for commuters.

Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially near US 131 and US 31, where wind gusts will worsen road conditions. Those who must travel are urged to slow down, keep emergency supplies in their vehicles, and allow extra time to reach their destination.

Wind chills as low as -17°F could also pose a risk for frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Residents should dress in layers and limit outdoor activity whenever possible.

Looking ahead, Thursday will see lighter snow and temperatures near 24°F, with conditions improving slightly by Friday. However, a chance of snow showers is forecast for Saturday afternoon, as temperatures climb to a high of 31°F.

Stay informed by checking local weather updates, and plan ahead for potentially extended travel times during the next 48 hours.
