Austin, TX – Hard freezes are gripping South-Central Texas this week, with temperatures plunging into the teens and low 20s overnight. Residents are advised to take precautions against freezing conditions, particularly during the early morning hours through Friday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), daytime highs will gradually warm from the mid-40s Wednesday to near 60 by Saturday. Sunny skies are expected to dominate Thursday and Friday, providing brief relief after frigid mornings. However, isolated showers could develop Saturday night into Sunday, increasing the risk of slick roads and challenging travel conditions.

The Texas Department of Transportation advises drivers to remain cautious during early hours when residual moisture could create icy patches on roads, especially along I-35 and US-290. Low-impact rain is expected for most areas, but rain chances may increase Sunday morning, with scattered thunderstorms possible in the afternoon.

Looking ahead, Austin will see highs climb into the upper 50s by Saturday, with Sunday peaking near 61 degrees. Lows will hover in the upper 20s through Friday, moderating slightly over the weekend. Cooler temperatures are forecast to return early next week.

Residents should protect outdoor plants, keep pets indoors, and wrap exposed pipes during freezing conditions. By Sunday, those attending outdoor activities should bring rain gear as isolated showers move across the region.
