Salem, IN – Indiana State Police have identified a 14-year-old boy who died following a shooting in Salem, as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to Indiana State Police-Sellersburg, the shooting occurred around 7:10 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at a residence on East Oak Drive. Officers with the Salem Police Department initially responded and located the juvenile with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
Authorities later identified the victim as Jameson Crawford, 14, of Salem. Detectives and crime scene investigators with Indiana State Police assisted in processing the scene and continuing the investigation.
According to investigators, a second 14-year-old male was taken into custody at the scene in connection with the incident. The teen has been charged with reckless homicide, a Level 5 felony, and was transported to the Allen County Juvenile Center in Fort Wayne.
Officials say the family of the victim has been notified. An autopsy was conducted Monday as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting and say no further information is available at this time.
Indiana State Police remind the public that all charges are allegations, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
