Washington, D.C. – A powerful Arctic air outbreak will bring life-threatening cold to much of the U.S. next week. Temperatures are expected to plummet 30 to 40 degrees below normal across dozens of states.
According to the NOAA Weather Prediction Center, subzero lows will reach as far south as the Southern Plains. Sub-freezing temperatures will extend to the Gulf Coast, making for dangerous conditions.
Midwestern and Great Plains states will experience the worst of the cold. Some areas could see lows near -30°F with wind chills even lower. The Northeast and Southeast will also face unseasonably frigid conditions, with highs struggling to reach the teens.
Officials urge residents to prepare for the extreme cold by securing heating sources, protecting pipes, and limiting outdoor exposure. Travel disruptions and increased energy demands are likely.
The Arctic blast will last through late next week before temperatures gradually rise. Stay updated with local forecasts and take precautions against the dangerously low temperatures.
