Wynne, AR – A block party in Wynne, Arkansas turned tragic when one man was killed and at least nine others sustained injuries on the night of April 13.
According to Arkansas State Police reports the violence erupted around 10 p.m. at the intersection of Williams Avenue and Martin Luther King Street, where gunshots were fired and two victims were subsequently run over by vehicles.
The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is now leading the probe, following a request from the Wynne Police Department. Investigators have pinpointed several individuals of interest and are calling on witnesses to provide any relevant information by reaching out to Troop D at (870) 970-6082.
The deceased, identified as 27-year-old Varian Campbell of Wynne, died at a local hospital. The injured, who are between the ages of 24 to 49 and include both males and females, received treatment at various facilities including St. Bernards CrossRidge Community Hospital in Wynne, Forrest City Medical Center, and hospitals in Memphis, Tenn., and Jonesboro.
One of the severely injured was airlifted to the Regional One Health Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis. There is a possibility that additional injured parties may have sought treatment in private vehicles.
Campbell’s body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to determine the manner and cause of death. As the community grapples with this horrific event, the investigation is actively ongoing.
