KANKAKEE – November is now officially Kankakee’s deadliest month of record during the pandemic, averaging over a death per day this month.
There have now been 118 deaths in Kankakee County, with 41 deaths reported in November. Kankakee’s previous record for deaths in a month was set in May when 30 residents succumbed to the virus. Prior to that in late April, only 28 residents had died total in the pandemic.
The news came as health officials announced a dozen new deaths Monday, marking the county’s largest single day death report yet in the pandemic. It’s double the previous record of six set just days prior. .
Hospitalizations have remained unchanged while deaths mount in Kankakee. Since Thursday afternoon, the county has remained consistent with 83 residents occupying hospital beds locally with the virus.
Monday afternoon, Kankakee positivity continued to rise from the holiday dip. The county had a 17% positivity this afternoon while Region 7, including Will, continued its rise for the second day in a row, now at 17.4%. Kankakee record a seven day low of 601 residents testing for the virus Friday, with 109 positive, a daily positivity rating of 18.1% for the area.
