Car catches fire after hitting tree, killing three Steger residents near Wilmington-Peotone Road

LOCKPORT – Illinois State Police District 5 announced Monday afternoon a 22-year old man, a 23-year old woman, and a 3-month old girl, all of Steger, are dead following an early morning accident.

It happened shortly after 12:30 this morning when a 2012 Gray Dodge driven by the 22-year-old man left the roadway a quarter-mile south of Wilmington-Peotone Road and entered a ditch. The car struck a tree and became fully engulfed in flames.  

The road was closed briefly following the crash and reopen before 3 am.

The Will County Coroner’s Office reported Monday night names of the victims are being withheld pending positive identification.  Autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday.
