Illinois Teen Among Two Arrested for Attack and Gun Display at University of Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – A 15-year-old was among two suspects arrested in connection with an attack on two University of Illinois students in Campustown early Sunday morning. 

According to University of Illinois Police, witnesses reported that a man scared a female student by jumping out at her and invading her personal space. When her male friend tried to intervene, several people began punching and kicking him, causing him several non-life-threatening lacerations. 

During the attack, one man lifted his shirt to display a handgun in his waistband. 

Kayveon A. Watkins, 20, was arrested for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated battery, and mob action. The 15-year-old was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center. 

The investigation is ongoing.
