GENEVA, Ill. — A violent two-day crime spree in Illinois came to a devastating conclusion near the intersection of Fabyan Parkway and Randall Road Wednesday afternoon. The spree ended with the death of a suspect and a heart-wrenching loss—the fatal shooting of a brave K9 officer.

According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Department, the suspect had been on a crime spree across the suburbs before ultimately carjacking a vehicle in Aurora. After locating the stolen vehicle, Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies engaged in a pursuit that reached a climactic moment at the bustling intersection, around 4 p.m.

As law enforcement confronted the suspect, a deadly exchange of gunfire erupted between the deputies and the perpetrator. Tragically, during the shootout, the suspect lost his life, but the consequences of this violent encounter extended beyond human casualties.

In the line of duty, a courageous K9 officer, identified as Hudson, suffered severe injuries that proved fatal. The loyal and dedicated canine, valiantly fought alongside the deputies but succumbed to the gunshot wounds inflicted during the incident.

Hudson, named in honor of an Illinois state police trooper who lost his life in the line of duty years ago, had dutifully served the Kane County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Ron Hain expressed deep sadness over the loss, recognizing Hudson’s selfless sacrifice.

“Our K9, Hudson, is tragically deceased due to the exchange of gunfire,” the sheriff’s office sorrowfully announced. “Today, Hudson joins the ranks of heroes, alongside our deputies, who resolved this situation successfully without harm to any civilians.”

“Very unfortunately, our K9, Hudson, is also deceased during the exchange of gunfire,” Sheriff Hain said Wednesday. “This is a big loss for us, but he’s an absolute hero today, along with our deputies who brought this to a successful close without injury to any civilians.”

Hain revealed Hudson had been deployed prior to the suspect showcasing a handgun which lead to his untimely death.

Major Crimes Task Force is now on the scene investigating the incident.  The identity of the suspect has not yet been disclosed.
