Bourbonnais, IL – As a result of the governor’s executive order in March, the Village of Bourbonnais instated COVID-19 preparedness measures for the health and safety of the community, including the cancellation of events. The Easter Egg Hunt was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 4th. The free community event held at the Children’s Safety Center is an annual Bourbonnais tradition. Determined to still spread some Easter spirit and put smiles on local children’s faces, the Easter bunny and village officials decided to host an ‘Easter Bunny Town Tour’ on Sunday, April 12, 2020.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Easter bunny will hop its way through the Village of Bourbonnais for an Easter drive-by experience. The no contact event promotes social distancing by encouraging residents to watch and wave from windows inside homes or safely from driveways. The Easter bunny will be escorted in a village vehicle down neighborhood streets, and in order to reach the largest number of residents, will not be stopping. For everyone’s safety, there will be no candy or passing out of Easter eggs. Gathering in groups roadside is extremely discouraged.

“We couldn’t bring children to the Easter bunny this year so we decided to bring the Easter bunny to them,” said Mayor Paul Schore.

“It’s not ideal but these are unusual and challenging times. We are doing what we can to help overcome challenges by bringing some normalcy to our community. We are all in this together, the Easter bunny included.”

The village will release the Easter bunny route and approximate time frames for neighborhoods via Facebook and villageofbourbonnais.com on Saturday, April 11th.

“I’m looking forward to an eggcellent town tour and can’t wait to see everyone’s smiling faces,” exclaimed Easter Bunny. “Please remember to wave to me from inside your homes or safely within your driveways, even the Easter bunny isn’t immune to COVID-19.”
