Illinois Man Dies in Horrific Crash Post Sheriff Chase

CHAMPAIGN, IL – A 23-year-old Champaign man died following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Springfield Avenue and Staley Road at 8:34 p.m. 

According to Champaign Police Reports, after running a red light Tuesday, a man’s vehicle was struck, veered off the road, and collided with a tree. Earlier that night, he had eluded a Champaign County Sheriff’s traffic stop and was suspected of evading another Sheriff’s vehicle when the fatal accident occurred.

While the second vehicle’s occupants were unharmed, the Champaign man sustained fatal injuries. The Illinois State Police are conducting a thorough traffic crash reconstruction as part of their ongoing investigation.
