Illinois Man’s Disturbing ‘Fourth of July Celebration’ Overnight Ends after 12 Gunshots

KANKAKEE, IL – A 22-year-old man, identified as Anthony R. Williams, was taken into custody Wednesday morning after allegedly firing 12 rounds from a handgun outside his residence on South Oakdale Avenue. 

According to Kankakee Police, it happened around 1 a.m. when Williams was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm. His Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card has been confiscated pending further investigation.

Police report Williams appeared to be intoxicated when he engaged in the ‘early Fourth of July’ celebration. Upon arrival, officers discovered shell casings scattered near Williams’ home.

The reckless display of gunfire in a residential area has left the community deeply concerned about public safety. Authorities are emphasizing the importance of responsible firearm ownership and the potential dangers posed by such behavior.

Williams is currently held at the Jerome Combs Detention Center on a $25,000 bond. As the investigation unfolds, local authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
