JASPER COUNTY, Ind. – A school bus carrying 18 students was involved in a crash just south of County Rd. 550 N. on U.S. 231 early this morning.
According to the preliminary investigation, the Kankakee Valley School Corporation school bus was picking up a child at 8:08 a.m. with its warning equipment activated when it was hit from behind by a passenger vehicle traveling in the same direction.
The driver of the passenger vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries. Six of the students on board the bus reported pain, but all 18 were evaluated by area medics and school nurses and either released to their parents or cleared to go to school.
The Indiana State Police is currently working on accident reconstruction, and no further information is available at this time.
The incident is a reminder of the importance of caution and attention while driving, particularly when near school buses or in school zones. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office urges all drivers to remain vigilant and follow traffic laws to keep themselves and others safe on the road.
