JASPER COUNTY, IN – After days of investigation, authorities have identified the driver of the vehicle that crashed into a school bus in Jasper County last week.
Brandon C. Jones, a 26-year-old from Rensselaer, Indiana, was named as the operator of the passenger vehicle that rear-ended the Kankakee Valley School Corporation bus.
The incident, which occurred on March 23rd, happened when the school bus was stopped to pick up a child with warning equipment activated. The passenger vehicle traveling southbound on U.S. 231 struck the bus from behind. Jones sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The condition of Jones is currently unknown.
The case remains under investigation by the Indiana State Police and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities are awaiting the results of a toxicology report to determine what criminal charges or traffic tickets may be filed.
There were a total of 18 students on the bus at the time of the accident, with six complaining of pain. All students were evaluated by Kankakee Valley School Corporation nurses and area medics before being released to their parents or cleared to go to school.
