Kankakee, IL – The Kankakee County Health Department (KCHD) and the Illinois Department of Public Health are investigating a salmonella outbreak linked to Cracker Barrel in Bourbonnais, Illinois.
According to Kankakee county health officials as of May 14th, eight individuals have reported illnesses after dining at the restaurant. The facility voluntarily shut down on May 4th to assist health officials in pinpointing the source of the outbreak.
John Bevis, a spokesperson for the health department, stated that the restaurant has since revised its food handling and environmental cleaning procedures to prevent further spread of the bacteria. Local physicians have been alerted to the situation and are advised to watch for symptoms in patients.
The KCHD is actively monitoring for additional reports of illness and urges anyone affected to call 815-802-9400, option 3, to file a complaint. Further information on salmonella can be found on the CDC’s website.
