LAKE COUNTY – An Illinois man has reportedly lead police on his second high speed chase in just four months.
According to Indiana State Police, the incident occurred this morning at 3:30am when an Indiana State Trooper attempted to pull a black Honda Ridgeline speeding over at I-80/94 near Calumet Ave. When officers tried to pull the truck over, it accelerated away.
After a short chase, the truck approached a T-intersection near Ridge Road where it climbed a hill and struck a tree 15ft off the ground in midair.
The driver, later identified as 41-year-old Daniel Rojas Zoloaga of Glenwood, Illinois, was removed from the vehicle unconscious and transported to Munster Community Hospital for injuries resulting from the crash.
“In May of this year, this same individual was arrested after being involved in a vehicle pursuit with the Indiana State Police in Lake County,” Indiana State Police said in a statement Monday. “A warrant was requested and later granted for a blood draw for a chemical test for intoxication to be performed.”
No charges have been reported against the driver.
