Man killed after misfire, shot himself in head on Waverly Place in Joliet

JOLIET – A man was killed shortly before midnight last night after reportedly shooting himself in the head after the gun he was carrying was discharged.

According to reports, it happened just before 11:45 PM when Joliet Fire Department responded to the scene in the 1300 block of Waverly Place for a man who had shot himself. Eyewitnesses recall the victim handling an AR .223 pistol when it fired, hitting the man in the head.

The victim was not breathing up on arrival and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
