Manteno Police Department has joined the Neighbors by Ring App in an effort to reduce crime in the community.
“This App will allow the Manteno Police to inform the community of real-time crime and safety events that you can always stay informed,” said Village Trustee Diane Dole at Monday’s Village Board meeting in Manteno.
As a member of the App, you can share something directly with the Police Department. Ring Devices are not necessary to participate in the program as anyone with any camera system can upload content through the App.
“The Chief has also been experimenting with some new camera equipment that is solar-powered and has been moving around in different places throughout the Village. We’re getting to the point where we got a lot of our major areas covered,” said Mayor Tim Nugent who said the Village has upgraded their surveillance throughout the community in recent years. “This RING agreement will expand that out of the Main Street/Commercial areas into neighborhoods even more.”
“While this app is not monitored by public safety agencies 24/7, the Manteno Police Department can now view, post and respond to crime and safety related information posted on the Neighbors App.” the Neighbors App Team said in a Statement.
Those without cameras can still download the App for updated safety information and view videos posted by the community.
