ELWOOD – A murder investigation is underway Friday after a man was discovered shot multiple times inside a vehicle in Elwood.
The vehicle was discovered near the CenterPoint Intermodal Center.
Investigators believe the case to be a drive-by shooting. According to reports, the victim’s Chevy car was first identified by a passerby who drove past what appeared to be a disabled vehicle around 3:30 am Friday morning and again just before 5 am. The onlooker decided to call the police after seeing the car hadn’t moved and thought it out of place.
Police had closed off Baseline Road between Arsenal and Noel early Friday morning while Detectives and the Will Grundy Major Crimes Task Force were on the scene investigating the case.
The victim’s name as yet to be released and is expected to be released by local police later this afternoon. Anyone with information related to this morning’s shooting is asked to call Elwood Police at 815-423-5411.
