PLAINFIELD – A marijuana complaint lead to the arrest of a student Monday after officers discovered a loaded gun in her car.

According to Plainfield Police, it happened at 9am this morning when Plainfield East High School’s Resource Office requested assistance for a student smelling of marijuana.

School staff requested the officer search the students car, parked in the school’s parking lot.

During a search attempt, the student reportedly attempted to enter the vehicle repeatedly, at one point kicking an officer trying to restrain her while a search was conducted.  Officers report discovering a loaded, semi-automatic pistol under the front passenger seat of the car.

“The 9mm pistol had no serial numbers and is consistent with firearms described as “Ghost

Guns”; purchased in pieces and assembled by the user.” Plainfield Police reported Monday afternoon.

The student wast later identified in a police report as 18-year-old Serena L. Cail of Romeoville.

Pending charges including Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer are pending against Cail.

“The weapon never entered the high school, and no lockdown was initiated as the student was in

custody when the firearm was discovered.” Plainfield Police report.
