Hinsdale, IL – A terrifying incident unfolded in Hinsdale as a car smashed into a local restaurant Monday, leaving a teenage pedestrian critically injured. The Hinsdale Police and Fire Department swiftly responded to the scene at Fontanos on 9 S Lincoln after receiving the distress call.

According to Hinsdale Fire, at approximately 2:36 pm, a vehicle leaving a nearby parking lot across the street collided with the building, resulting in multiple victims. Among them was a 14-year-old pedestrian who bore the brunt of the impact and suffered severe injuries. Emergency services transported the young victim to Hinsdale Hospital before later airlifting them to Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago Hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

Inside the restaurant, three individuals were also harmed either by the vehicle itself or debris from the accident. They were promptly taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment for their serious injuries. Fortunately, one customer inside the establishment escaped with minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene.

The Hinsdale Police Department is actively investigating the incident, with assistance from the Major Crash Reconstruction Team of the DuPage County Merit Task Force. Interviews have already been conducted with the driver, who miraculously emerged unharmed from the crash. It will be determined at the conclusion of the investigation whether any charges will be brought against the driver.

Firefighters from Oak Brook, Pleasantview, Downers Grove, Westmont, and the LaGrange Fire Departments provided valuable support to the Hinsdale emergency response team.
