19.6% Illinoisans tested to date for COVID-19 are positive headed into May

Illinois Department of Public Health officials announced 2,563 new cases of COVID-19 today, bringing case totals for the state to 52,918 cases since the pandemic began.  To date, the State has processed a total of 269,867 specimens, resulting in a 19.6% return rate on positive results.

Health officials also added on Thursday an additional 141 deaths to the state’s fatalities from the pandemic, bringing death totals to 2,355. Among today’s announced deaths include a man in his 40s and two women in their 80s from Will County.

Cases have now nearly engulfed the State, covering 97 of 102 of Illinois counties.
