PINELLAS COUNTY, FL – A tragic collision on New Year’s Eve claimed the life of a 20-year-old man from Grovetown, Georgia. The incident occurred at the intersection of US-19 and Klosterman Road in Pinellas County, Florida.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before midnight. The young man, driving a BMW 335XI at a high rate of speed, reportedly ran a red light and collided with a Kia Optima. The Kia, driven by a 63-year-old woman from Palm Harbor, was proceeding under a green light.

The force of the impact caused both vehicles to spin and come to a halt along the road’s west side. The BMW also struck a utility pole, resulting in the ejection of its driver.

Emergency services transported both drivers to nearby hospitals. Unfortunately, the young man from Grovetown succumbed to his injuries, while the Palm Harbor woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
