Champaign, IL – The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office is issuing a strong warning to the public about a series of scam calls falsely purporting to be connected with law enforcement officials.

Residents have reported receiving calls from individuals posing as representatives of the Sheriff’s Office, attempting to extort money by alleging that the recipient has an outstanding arrest warrant. The Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that they never request financial transactions over the phone for warrant matters and advises residents to independently verify any such communication by directly contacting their published number.

Sheriff Heuerman is urging the community to remain cautious and to report any dubious solicitations to the authorities immediately.
