Champaign, IL – A fatal collision at the intersection of University and Fourth Street in Champaign claimed the life of a 19-year-old motorcyclist from Indiana on Wednesday night.
Champaign Police responded to the scene at approximately 10:06 p.m. following reports of an accident with injuries. Upon arrival, officers discovered the young man had been ejected from his motorcycle after being struck by a car making a left turn.
According to Champaign Police, the initial investigation reveals that the motorcycle was heading east on University Avenue when it collided with a westbound car that failed to yield while turning onto Fourth Street. The motorcyclist suffered multiple injuries and was promptly attended to by police and the Champaign Fire Department before being rushed to a local hospital, where he later died.
The driver of the car was cited for failing to yield to oncoming traffic.
